A ‘Strategy and Action Plan for Sustainable Tourism Development in the Maribo Lakes Nature Park’ has been prepared, as part of the EU project ‘Parks & Benefits’, by two Danish municipalities, with the assistance of Nordeco. The Strategy and Action Plan has been developed in a participatory process, whereby landowners, local tourism initiatives, NGOs, the Nature Park ranger and municipal staff and politicians have been consulted at various stages of the process. This strategy and action plan will guide the Nature Park’s operations for the period 2012 to 2016. Given that the strategy and action plan aims to meet the principles of the EUROPARC Charter for Sustainable Tourism in wilderness areas, the Nature Park is now expected to be the first Park in Denmark to qualify for official EUROPARC Charter certification.
