Four week course in Natural Resouce Management for Sustainable Development - June-July 2010
2010-03-19
NORDECO, in collaboration with another Danish consultancy NIRAS, is offering the following four-week course in English: “Natural Resources Management for Sustainable Development”, to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, from June 21st to July 16th, 2010.
The development objective of the course is that Natural Resources Management for Sustainable Development be integrated into core institutional thinking, policies and decision-making. The immediate objective of the course is that individuals and institutions involved in natural resources management integrate sustainable development principles in all phases of the programming or project cycles (planning, implementation and review).
The course will selectively target Best Practices so that useful tools and skills can be internalised by participants through participatory learning processes. Lectures will be supplemented by field trips and group work. Participants will engage in case-based learning and develop individual projects for implementation in their jobs.
The root causes of problems associated with Natural Resources Management, globally and in participants’ own countries will be analysed, with particular concern for understanding how Natural Resources Management relates to poverty. Participants will actively explore how to bring about constructive change through their jobs, and assist each other in this process.
The course is intended for professionals who work with natural resources management in a development context. Diversity will be sought in terms of gender balance, countries, sectors, and institutions. Participants will be engaged in the learning process and will also be selected on the basis of their potential for constructively using the acquired knowledge in their jobs.
Participants may be from government institutions, or members/staff of NGOs or private companies – all involved in Danida supported development cooperation activities. A good working knowledge of English is required.
