Environmental programme support to Kenya

2008-10-27

Natural resources play a vital role in economic life of Kenya, and environmental degradation threatens vulnerable habitats and biodiversity as well as livelihoods and long term food and income security for a large proportion of Kenya’s population.

In response to this, the governments of Kenya, Denmark and Sweden have collaborated since 2006 on the implementation of environmental programme support. The programme seeks to establish a framework for sustainable environmental management and development by focussing on (i) policy development at the national level, (ii) strengthened environmental regulation at national and decentral levels, and (iii) development of models and approaches for community based natural resource management with support from civil society organisations.

Nordeco participated in the Joint Annual Sector Review of the programme, in collaboration with programme partners at national and local levels.
