Environmental mainstreaming course in full swing

2009-10-15

The Environmental Mainstreaming and Environmental Management course is in full swing and will continue the next four weeks. The course is in Spanish and participants come from Bolivia, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.  The participants are from government institutions, municipalities, NGOs and private sector organizations affiliated with Danida programmes in Latin America.

The objective of the course is that individuals and institutions involved in development planning will take appropriate account of the environment in all aspects of their roles in relation to planning, implementation and review cycles. The goal is that the participants should gain a comprehensive understanding of environmental mainstreaming and how to apply it. The course shall adopt a critical approach that enables participants to develop an ability to "think" environmentally and choose positive actions accordingly – both at work and at home, and in particular within their institutional context.

The course methodology is action oriented and includes case studies and field trips. The field visits include the renewable energy centre at Risø, the municipality of Lolland, Agenda 21 activities in Copenhagen, environment friendly business solutions in Copenhagen, examples of integrated urban planning, a municipal waste water treatment facility, and a rural eco-community.

The course is sponsored by Danida Fellowship Centre and implemented by Nordeco.
