EIA for Bagamoyo Project, Tanzania
2008-01-11The Swedish Ethanol Chemistry AB (SEKAB) has identified an opportunity for Tanzania to play a major role in the production of Bio-Fuel in Africa and thus generating export revenues from Bio-Fuel export in combination with electricity generation. A local company named SEKAB BioEnergy Tanzania Limited has been formed and has identified the Razaba farm in Bagamoyo district for the establishment of the first Bioethanol and Biopower complex. This will comprise of a sugarcane plantation of about 20.000 ha and an industrial site for the production of ethanol and power.
As a first step the Swedish Consulting Company Orgut has been hired to coordinate and implement an Environmental Impact Assessment for the project and through Orgut Nordeco is involved in overall coordination of baseline studies and identification of long-term and short term impacts and proposal of mitigation measures in the final EIA.
