Denmark's most important bird area
2009-08-14The Wadden Sea is visited annually by more than 10 million birds using the East Atlantic flyway during migration between breeding season and warmer regions. The Wadden Sea is Denmark's most important bird area. There are now plans for a major expansion of Esbjerg Harbour adjacent to the Wadden Sea and several important bird areas. Before the port expansion can be implemented there is a need for a thorough assessment of what impacts the construction and operation of an extended harbour will have on local breeding birds and resting seasonal birds. Nordeco has contributed with ornithological expertise to an EIA (environmental impact assessment) prepared by Niras regarding the planed expansion of the Esbjerg Harbour.
