Courses in Disaster Risk Reduction
2011-10-31
As part of the implementation of the Danish Strategy for Humanitarian Action, Danida supports a number of courses in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). The central module is for senior managers or policy-level persons in government in Danida partner countries. Nordeco designed the module with a course outline, objectives, methods and topics.
By the end of the training, participants will:
- Understand the importance of, and reasons for, incorporating DRR measures in national and sector policies, budgeting, planning and execution.
- Appreciate the need for moving DRR form policy levels to concrete action that saves lives and avoid economic and social losses.
- Be aware of the need for analysing disaster risks and socio-economic vulnerability as part of the analysis and understanding of poverty and the root causes of poverty;
- Be aware of the process and steps for integrating DRR into national and sector-specific strategic planning processes, budgets and execution.
- Be able to advocate for the incorporation of DRR approaches into national and sector-wide planning, budgeting and practices, based on a personal plan developed during the course.
- Have joined and have access to an international network of DRR-practitioners, among course participants, instructors and facilitators.
