Civil society and environment, Tanzania

2009-09-10

Environmental accountability is a major issue in Tanzania as in many other countries. Securing the rights of the poor to land and resources in rural and urban areas as well as the rights to human settlement and health continues to be fundamental problem creating poverty and degrading the environment. Civil society organisations are a crucial stakeholder in promoting environmental accountability and governance as well as advocating for an accountable environmental management. Danida has decided to formulate a component within the overall environment support program to Tanzania that will support civil society in their advocacy role in environment and natural resources. Nordeco will lead the team formulating the component.
