Assessment of past and ongoing Danish multilateral and bilateral support to Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)

2010-08-27

Nordeco has been contracted by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) to undertake an assessment of past and ongoing Danish multilateral and bilateral support to Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and to provide guidance to the DRR implementation in the Strategy for Danish Humanitarian Action for 2010-2015. The overall objective is a well integrated DRR programme anchored within the framework of this Strategy.  The programme should be mainstreamed into MFA-supported sector programmes in partner countries and at the same time position Denmark as a visible and proactive multilateral partner in the global implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action on Disaster Risk Reduction in a humanitarian context. The guidance will address three target areas: 1. Multilateral support. 2. Bilateral DRR support coupled with the climate change adaptation-related support  for disaster risk reduction, giving priority to countries that are high-risk and low income. 3. Training and possible awareness rising of partners and relevant MFA staff.
