The Nordeco Foundation
NORDECO is wholly owned by the non-profit foundation, Nordic Foundation for Development and Ecology. All profits made from the operation of NORDECO are channelled into the Foundation, which has the declared goal of supporting local conservation and development initiatives in remote communities. Throughout the years a range of activities have been supported financially by the Foundation. They include:
- Organisational support to forming of indigenous peoples organisation among the Agta of Sierra Madre, Philippines
- Local involvement in biodiversity monitoring activities in selected key conservation areas in the Philippines
- Development of play schools for children on the Altiplano in Bolivia
- Civil society involvement with sustainable conservation and local development initiatives in Bulgaria
- Support to management of the Xe Pian national park in Laos
- Seminars and research symposium on local and participatory natural resource monitoring methods in the Arctic and in developing countries
- Publication of books on conservation priorities in Andes, indigenous health systems in Amazonas, and political ecology in the Amazonas
- Development of mechanisms for supporting sustainable agriculture and carbon emission reductions in Cambodia
- Support to BirdLife Denmark
Nordic Foundation for Development and Ecology is member of the NGO Network of the Global Environment Facility, a volunteer structure of GEF-accredited organisations, see this link.
Aside from its grants programme, Nordic Foundation for Development and Ecology carries out independent research. It is among the top-5% most frequently cited research institutions in Conservation Science, see this link.
