Climate change
Nordeco works on the issues of global climate change from its general perspective on sustainable management of natural resources based on peoples’ own capacities. From this perspective we offer consultancies in climate change mitigation, adaptation and low carbon development, from community to national levels.
We are supporting the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in reporting on the Convention on Climate Change. We are pioneering responsible methods for private businesses and donors to support climate adaptation and mitigation by local communities in the developing World.
Recently we initiated work on a new phase of a project in Cambodia, where the Danish dairy company Oellingegaard supports about a thousand households in transforming their farming to Low External Input Sustainable Agriculture. Nordeco supervises the work and documents the social and climate-related benefits, developing new methods in the process. Read more about the project on Oellingegaards homepage (in Danish).
In Vietnam we are in 2009-10 together with the Danish Forestry Extension involved in the development of an interim baseline reference scenario that is part of the preparation of a REDD facility. This assignment is part of the 3 year framework agreement on forests and climate change that Nordeco has with the Embassy of Finland in Vietnam.
We consider sustainable natural resources management to have tremendous potential for mitigating impacts of climate change and local people to possess the skills and courage to adapt, with proper assistance. We see the adaptation work as being closely related to our experiences in disaster prevention and rural development. We see effective climate action and continued popular support as dependent upon effective monitoring, involving local people in ground truthing, but also to include issues of governance and equity.
Also our work on water resources and conflict related hereto, is closely related to climate change adaptation.

In addition, Nordeco staff has participated in production of several papers on biofuel production and its impact on biodiversity and climate change.
